FAQ

Will full size vehicles be allowed on this series of trails?

No.  This area is designated for ATV and motorcycle use only.

How many miles of trails will there be?

Compared to other riding areas, this area is relatively small.  Our goal is to make this riding area the best it can be right now, and then look for areas to build more trails if possible.   Right now we have a total of about six miles of trail flagged.  This includes the perimeter trail which basically surrounds the entire designated area.   In order to make the best use of the area we have to work with right now, we are planning a series of loops within the main perimeter trail.

How difficult will the trails be?

When the perimeter trail is completed it will be rated easy to moderate.  More difficult trails for the more skilled riders will be located within the perimeter and will be clearly marked.

Will the trails be open year round?

During fire season, Oregon Department of Forestry has traditionally closed portions of the forest to off highway vehicles.  CFRA is currently working with ODF officials on a plan that may allow the riding season to be extended under certain circumstances.   If approved, the trails may be kept open through enactment of a Fire Protection and Prevention Plan which will require volunteers to keep fire watch and do regular patrols.

When will the trails be open?

Much of the construction will be done by volunteers.  Before we can begin work on a trail, the routing of the trails must be individually approved and mapped with a GPS by the ODF.  The Department of Forestry has money budgeted for this biennium (which ends July 2007) for construction of the staging area.  We will begin work on the staging area this spring (soon) and we hope to set a date for our first trail building work party at our March meeting.   We hope to have the perimeter trail open (if not entirely finished) before summer 2007.   ODF plans to budget for some inmate work crews to help with construction of trails in the 2008/2009 Budget Biennium.

How can I help?

These trails will not happen without the support of volunteer riders and families.  If you plan to ride these trails, please contact us and add your name to our volunteer list.
